Washington, DC — The Dominican American National Roundtable presented a Comedy Night with internationally acclaimed television personality and cherished comedian and author Freddy Beras-Goyco at the DANR 12th Annual Conference, which took place from Friday, December 4 through Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the Coronado Springs Resort in Walt Disney World in Florida.

Proceeds from the Comedy Night will benefit the DANR’s National Youth Fellowship Program.

“Tal y como les había prometido, será siempre un placer colaborar con los planes de educación que llevan a cabo” (as promised, I will be happy to collaborate with the educational programs your organization is implementing),” said Freddy Beras-Goyco in a written statement sent to DANR National President Nestor Montilla.

With an emphasis on the Dominican Family, the Conference will kick off on Friday, December 4th with a welcome reception followed by Freddy Beras-Goyco’s Comedy Night.

“We are happy and honored indeed to welcome our distinguished and loved world-class comedian Freddy Beras-Goyco, who has graciously accepted volunteering his talent and time to help DANR fund raise resources for its national scholarship programs for students,” said DANR President Montilla.

“This year, DANR selected a group of eight young college students who completed the first part of the DANR 2009 National Youth Fellowship Program,” said Amaris Guzman, National Board Member and program coordinator. “The focus is to introduce students both to the realms of economic reform and advocacy work at the national and local levels” (for more information about the program visit www.danr.org).

The Conference, with its theme “State of Dominicans in the US: Renewed Vision – Renewed Commitment,” includes workshop tracks on economic development, education, technology, youth empowerment, health, immigration, and other important issues impacting Dominicans in the US. There will be forums on Dominican-Puerto Rican historical relations, and Dominican-Haitian relations

In addition, there will be an exclusive signature art exhibition by Painter Rigo Peralta and the World Premiere of Los Panfleteros de Santiago (Santiago’s Pamphleteers, an original English-subtitled documentary about the story of 32 young Dominican rebels who used flyers to exercise freedom of speech in an attempt to reclaim the Dominican Republic from dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo.

Among many other highlights, the conference will host its 12th Annual Awards Ceremony followed by a signature Dinner Concert with Dominican music icon, composer and performer Rafael Solano and singer Nini Caffaro to celebrate with the audience the 40th Anniversary of his song Por Amor, an international immortal hymn sung and cherished by people of all ages from every corner of the earth (click here to see and hear Maestro Solano inviting you to the DANR 12th Annual Conference:)
