DANR Vice President Speaks at Latino 2010 Census Summit in Washington, DC

Washington, DC.– Vice President Julio Guridy of The Dominican American National Roundtable, attended the Latino 2010 Census Summit held at the U.S. Senate Visitor Center (Rooms 202 and 203) in Washington, DC on March 17, 2010, the day most households in the United States received their 2010 Census form.

DANR Vice President Guridy spoke at the Latino Summit and highlight the work of the Dominican American National Roundtable on the 2010 Census, which includes the DANR National Awareness Campaign ¡Uno Más Uno! (One Plus One!), a multi-layered national program promoting the full count of Dominicans, Dominican Americans and Latinos in the US Decennial Censuses (http://danr.org/2010/01/06/danr-national-census-campaign-1-1/).
“Along the past years, the DANR has been very busy hosting national town hall meetings to promote the full count of Dominicans and Dominican Americans in the U.S. and Puerto Rico,” said DANR Vice President Guridy. “DANR has taken the accurate and full count of Dominicans and Latinos in the 2010 US Census as its major advocacy issue.”
“The message DANR is bringing to the Latino 2010 Summit in Washington, DC is very simple: If you are Dominican or Latino, write-in “Dominican” or your nationality on question 8 on the 2010 Census form,” he said.
The Latino Summit program begun at 9:00 am with “Panel One on Latino Campaigns (Ground/Media), followed by “Panel Two on Policy Issues in the 2010 Census.” The Summit concluded with a press conference where elected officials, national organizations and community leaders will stand united, encouraging the Latino community to participate in the 2010 Census.
The event was spearheaded by NALEO Educational Fund, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization that facilitates full Latino participation in the American Political process from citizenship to public service. Participating organizations include Voto Latino, LULAC, CHCI, Latino Justice, HNBA, LCLAA, Entravision, Dominican American National Roundtable (DANR), Hispanic Federation, Impremedia, Univision, Mi Familia Vota, NHCLC, NCLR, USHLI, MALDEF, and among others NALEO.
